A TRIP TO WALES

FROM 4 TO 10 JUNE 2007

31 SECONDES AND 3 TEACHERS STAYED IN CARDIFF

The students enjoyed the crossing from St Malo to Porstsmouth.

They seemed to be good sailors !

Discover Cardiff city centre : a treasure hunt

Not much time to read the papers.

Some lucky students caught sight of... The Queen who was having lunch at the City Hall.

She inaugurated the Welsh Parliament in the afternoon.

The others were delighted to see her car.

In the afternoon, we visited the National Coal Museum "Big Pit" at Blaenafon.

We went 300 ft underground with e real miner and saw what life was like for the thousands of men who worked  at the coal face.

Wednesday, June 6th

One group of students discovered the steel giant Corus, formerly British Steel, at Port Talbot and very much appreciated the plant structure. The opportunity to see the furnaces, the vessel and the control desk was something they hadn't expected.

Another group of students met a very nice man at Porthcwal Lifeboat Station who explained how crewmen operate day or nignt in dangerous sea conditions and save lives.

In the evening, Gareth (on the right) offered us a drink (orange juice) at the Prince of Wales Pub and told us some Welsh legends.

On thursday, we discovered the open-air Museum at St Fagans, which is one of Wale's most popular heritage attractions.

We spent the afternoon at Rowercord engineering, a plant specialised in girder works. We were all impressed by the workshops and appreciated the manager's kindness.

Friday morning, back to Newport Transporter Bridge.

It is one of eignt known Transporter Bridges in the World, designed by a french architect and opened in 1906.

We were brave enough to walk across the top !

It was a sunny afternoon and we had a pleasant cruise on Cardiff bay.

Just before leaving Cardiff on Saturday, we visited one of the City"s landmarks : the Millenium stadium. The students entered the players'dressing room, the VIP areas including the Royal Box...

Our last stop was bath and a night onboard the Brittany ferry'Bretagne.

Definitely, we enjoyed Wales and its people and promise to come back !
